Proto scooters is founded by Andrew Broussard in San Diego, California. Andrew grew up as an action sports enthusiast and with the advent of the new aluminum scooters in the early 2000's, he began trying to emulate freestyle tricks. The scooters of the time were not designed to withstand the abuse of this new realm of freestyle and required a bag of spare parts and tools on every ride to complete a session. Wanting to have freestyle scooter components specifically designed to withstand the demands of this new style, he set about the arduous task of modifying every part of a scooter to determine what features were really needed and how to get them. After years of trial and error, refined designs and manufacturing knowledge, the world's first freestyle scooter company was born: PROTO scooters.
